There are all kinds of handy phone features available that can improve the way your business runs. This guide explains some of the most common and popular ones.
Three-Way Calling
Three-Way Calling allows you to speak with two other people at the same time, so that there are a total of 3 people in the conversation. This service could save your business time and travel expenses, as it allows for an audio conference to take place between three people who may be on different sites. Three-way calling works for both local and overseas numbers.
Call Diversion
Call Diversion allows you to automatically reroute calls from your usual phone to another phone. The call can be diverted to a landline or mobile anywhere in the UK, and to most overseas destinations. This function is great for employees who may be working from home, out visiting clients, or overseas and using a different number.
Call Barring
Call barring allows you to block certain types of outgoing calls. Businesses may use this function to block international or premium calls, in order to stop employees from making expensive private calls. Call barring can also be used to stop certain types of incoming calls.
Answer 1571
Similar to voicemail, this is one of the simplest but most important telephony functions for your business. If you cannot answer a call for whatever reason – whether you are out, or on another call – Answer 1571 will take your messages for you. Messages can be up to 2 minutes long, and are saved for up to 20 days. Using this service helps you retain business you may otherwise have lost, and allows you to receive information even though you may not be at your desk.
Call Minder
Call Minder offers a similar service to Answer 1571, but with additional remote access features. This service is ideal if you are working from home or in another location, and want to retrieve your messages. When a message has been recorded, Call Minder calls a set home number at 10-minute intervals for up to 2 hours to notify you of the messages. You can check these messages from the home line, or remotely.
Call Waiting
With call waiting, you can be on one call and receive another incoming call at the same time. A gentle beep will tell you another call is coming in, and gives you the option to finish your original call, swap between both calls, or continue with your current call. In the latter case, the caller will be asked to ring back later. With this function you can be assured that you won’t miss any important business calls while you are on the phone. This is particularly useful should you wish to make private calls without interfering with the line’s business function.
